I was thinking about how to keep cool and chic in this lovely heat wave that has visited NYC again this weekend. I have a big puff of hair and I like to not always wear it in a ponytail.
Normally, I will take a scarf out of my collection (I’ve been collecting for years) and tie it around my hair; this is my offering for today… A beautiful silk scarf tied bandana style to keep your hair off your face but still keep you looking beautiful! I have a collection that starts at the dollar store and goes all the way to Hermes. My favorite, however are from Coach. I also will search out discount stores and look for vintage designer finds.
Bluefly has some beautiful Pucci and I am eyeing one for my visit to the hospital to make me look a bit more presentable!

I am stealing my idea this week from Catherine’s blog about keeping cool in the heat. I am a big fan of powder. Baby powder is, of course, a great way to keep cool and it smells delish if you don’t want to add any perfume. I love this Italian powder called Felce Azzura. I found it in my local Italian Supermarket and it is relatively easy to find in European markets around here. The scent is floral and fruity all rolled into one and at about $15 per container, with a pink powder puff, I think it is a good deal.
Besides, who doesn’t want to powder up with a pretty pink puff? Makes me feel like Marilyn Monroe!

What’s your favorite powder?

For my birthday last year, my friends and I went on a Sex and the City Bus Tour here in the NYC. We had a blast. We saw the sights, we ate the food, we laughed, and, We. Shopped. That was the most important part of the day! We went into the Times Square Sephora and I browsed the perfume section. In my obsession to collect all things French, and having just come back from Paris, I was in the Hermès section. The Elixir des Merveilles (Elixir of the Wonders) caught my eye. I smelled it and it was a wonderful sweet and slightly musky scent. It definitely fit my bill for a perfect perfume because I like something that will stay all day but will not knock me over. I bought myself a birthday present and we left the store. I smelled delicious and I had a bit of Paris with me for the rest of the year. I have been wearing it lately and it transitions well into the summer. I feel that it will become my signature scent. One can never go wrong with Hermès! Ladies, go smell this parfum, adore it and bring it home!

Not to harp on the subject of Anna Scholz, but here I am again looking at the Double Silk Plait Maxi Dress. I have this dress… I bought it last summer and I adore it. I am not one to wear a strapless bra and embrace it, but for this dress I would duct tape the boobies together. I feel like a princess in this dress. I feel tall, stately and absolutely perfectly beautiful!
 Anna Scholz Plus Size Dress
I feel like nothing can stand in my way when I wear this dress. I paired it with some handmade jewelry from Etsy and some gold wedges and off I went to dinner. My husband thought I looked gorgeous and so did the other couple we went out with. I am telling you, this may be the dress I wear to my shower. I may even get a tiara to match!

I was on Beauty.com the other day and I was thrilled to see that I can buy some of my favorite French products! I am jumping for joy! I really love L’Occitane Almond Tonic Body Oil.

It makes my skin SO soft and it makes me smell like cookies! The small of almond paste brings me back to my childhood being surrounded by Italian cookies at the holidays and they are my favorite things to continue to eat today. I never mind if I smell a bit like the cookie and it makes me smile and think of a more innocent time. The fact also that the product is an oil and doesn’t leave you slick and gooey makes me happy!

Is anyone in love with the Melissa Masse green faux wrap dress the way I am? I think it is such a gorgeous color of green that for the Spring and Summer it is perfect. I would totally rock that in the Fall and Winter as well because you can add a sweater and pumps to this dress and keep it warm or keep it cool with some beautiful sandals by Kenneth Cole and some big hoop CC Skye earrings! I love the versatility of this dress and definitely want one in my closet!

Since my hair is growing like a weed these days, and the weather is HOT HOT HOT, I need to find myself a good hair rubber band. I know this is no secret, but Goody is where it’s at. Goody Hair Elastics are ouchless and do not pull on my curly hair. It helps keep it in place and doesn’t break it when the elastic is taken out. The best part of Goody these days is that they have hair color collections of their elastics and bobbies. They come in blondes, brunettes, reds and black. I am pretty sure you can match your elastic to your hair color and have no tell tell signs of a stray bobby hanging out. They keep me from running to my hairdresser and demanding a crew cut. I can go for a blow out in the middle of the summer and it is kept in a sleek pony tail without too much fuss.

What’s your favorite hair trick for the summer heat?

Hello my plus size fashionistas! So, I am now 33 weeks pregnant – know what that means? I am getting BIG, SORE AND TIRED!! But, I can’t go flying off to any exotic locales just now but here is a list of my favorite beaches, and ones I have yet to visit.
#1 Akumal, Rivera Maya, MX: I got married here and I want to go swim with the sea turtles there NOW!! White sand beaches, peaceful atmosphere, not too crowded, sea turtles, amazing snorkling, great food…what more do you need? Attire in Akumal is relaxed, cool and comfy. Melissa Masse Maxis fit in perfectly!
2) Ambergris Caye, San Pedro, Belize: I can not recommend the Matachica Beach Resort enough. We honeymooned here and it is the most secluded white sand beach with private cabanas for each couple. It’s the perfect place to recharge your batteries, play in the sun and take day trips around Belize. Little jersey dresses by Anna Scholz fit right in here

3) I have my heart set on exploring Italy’s beaches next… last month Conde Nast’s traveler had an excellent article about the beaches of Italy and where to go. I want to see them all. Old world culture, beautiful beaches, amazing food and stunning architecture. Sign me up!
 Here I come...

I know it may seem odd, but I love Johnson’s Bedtime Baby Lotion. I absolutely love the smell of lavender and it calms me right down. I have a lavender linen spray that I keep next to my bed (and in my lingerie drawer) for when I run out of bedtime lotion. Sometimes I will even draw a bubble bath with the Moisture Wash. Being that we all lead super busy and stressful lives, we cannot always get to a facial or massage. This is a great way to relax in your own home. No matter what is happening in my life, a bubble bath always makes me feel just a little bit better!

What is your favorite relaxing technique?

I have learned over the years, it is better to save for one or two good items than a slew of cheap items. I am sure, if you have long hair, you are constantly looking for a good jaw clip or a good barrette. One company that I came across years ago is France Luxe. The hair on my head is so thick, it was never easy for me to keep a clip more than a week or so because it was constantly breaking. I needed a clip that was not going to pop out of my hair or snap and break when I really needed it. I purchased my first France Luxe clip about six years ago and I still have it. I only have three, but let me tell you they are my go to hair clips. I have converted some of my girlfriends also.

My favorites are the France Luxe Corniche Jaw – Classic, and the France Luxe Grill Jaw – Classic. I would explore some of the beautiful clips and headbands on this site. You can also purchase them in Nordstrom and on Amazon.
