Plus Size Dresses – Baby, It’s Hot Outside!

June 30th, 2010 by Catherine | No Comments | Filed in Plus Size Fashion

Wooo, it’s a warm one out there!!  My surefire way to keep cool – and cute – on a hot day is to wear a dress.  Dresses touch as little skin as possible while still being exceptionally flattering.  Plus, the skirt has built in air conditioning ;)   Here are a couple of my favorites for the season.   How do you keep cool??

Mix it Up!

May 19th, 2010 by Catherine | 1 Comment | Filed in Plus Size Fashion

I was browsing around on Style.com this morning and came across their spring trends.  I love this one in theory – Mixing Prints – but I am always afraid I am going to look like a big mess rather than a chic stylish woman

Do you mix patterns?  What would you pair with these patterned pieces?

Plus Size Favs: Dominique De Sentino

May 5th, 2010 by Catherine | 1 Comment | Filed in Plus Size Fashion

Woohoo all – here is another post from La Grande Dame herself – Michelle Wood.  Michelle is the CCO and co-founder of La Grande Dame and is our 50 (ok, she just turned 51) year old style maven. Her taste is impeccable!! (I love my mom, she gave me style :) )

One of My Plus Size Favorites – De Sentino

Many of you have been hesitant to purchase clothing from the De Sentino line since you had never heard of it before. I have got to tell you that the quality of Dominique’s clothes are among the best we carry. I also think that she gives us plus size women styles that are on par with the best off the missy styles. I wear her clothes 4 days out of the week during the summer. The chartreuse top and skirt are fun to wear and make me feel young without looking slutty or inappropriate.

If you have any traveling to do the you can’t go wrong with the tropical leaf dress.

It washes and dry like a dream doesn’t wrinkle and you can wear it with leggings and a sweater for cooler days.

De Sentino is a small company from Canada. I really love supporting small companies who are trying to make plus size women beautiful. Dominique is one of the few designers who can make her clothing translate from a missy 0 to a w24 seamlessly allowing all of us to be uniquely beautiful.

Animal Kingdom

March 31st, 2010 by fanny | No Comments | Filed in Plus Size Fashion

Monday I took flight.  I was so excited that I had been packing since February.  I am one of those really OCD people that checks and re-checks their luggage about 20 times before I leave the house.  I put all my outfits together and lay them all out making sure they are just perfect!  I want to be comfortable and completely fashionable when I am away on vacay.  Because I am one of those people who likes themes, I am loving these Black and White De Sentino pants and top.

They would be comfortable and super sexy while I am staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in Disney.  Most of the outfits in my luggage have an animal print theme to them and these remind me of a beautiful zebra.  I would throw on some silver flat gladiator sandals and a big bangle and big hoop earrings and be ready to have a romantic dinner with my hubby!

The Tropics

March 25th, 2010 by fanny | No Comments | Filed in Plus Size Fashion

So I was trolling around La Grande Dame today and I came across the Tropical Leaf Dress by De Sentino and I was thinking about how to coordinate it for a summer event.

This dress immediately transports me to the tropics. First of all, my Coach Embossed Kristin Tote is going to hold all my needs for the day. Because I feel that the dress does most of the talking, I would only go with some very simple accessories; Rose stud earrings from Asos. My Penny Levi leather bracelet is a must.   I would, of course, throw on my Kelly 2 Hermes watch because it is classy and summery. Lastly, I would put on my Phila Espadrilles and go!

What do you think ladies, how would you accessorize this gorgeous dress?

Day to Night, Work to Date

March 12th, 2010 by Catherine | No Comments | Filed in Plus Size Fashion

So my style challenge this week was a beautiful Marina Rinaldi suit.

This was so much fun because having two pieces to work with is better than one! I picked a
whole bunch of shirts and denim and fun accessories to put with them, most from La Grande Dame, of course!

I love to mix and match high end pieces with some lower end pieces. I am also looking at investment pieces and that is why I added in some Manolos and diamonds. A Coach sling for night and a tote for the day mixed with some fun jewelry will get you through all your fun occasions. Make sure to check
out my comments under each picture! How would you style this suit?

Check out more styles to take this suit from day to night on polyvore and let us know what you think!

Traveling with just a Carry On

December 8th, 2009 by Catherine | No Comments | Filed in Plus Size Fashion

This post is care of “La Grande Dame” herself, Michelle Wood :)

Last week I went to Las Vegas with my husband.  He was there on business, I was just there for fun!  I was determined to be my usual stylish, sexy, curvy self for the 4 days we were there, while just taking a carry-on suitcase.  Here is what I packed:

Anna Scholz Black Pants & Anna Scholz Mermaid Skirt (coming soon to La Grande Dame!)  They packed like a dream with no wrinkles :)   I could not have felt sexier than when I paired the Marina Rinaldi Naivette Sweater with the Mermaid Skirt, hose and red pumps!

The next day was devoted to shopping and I cruised all of the designer shops, drooling in  Cartier, Chanel, and more.  I definitely fit right in and had the attention of all the shop clerks wearing my Anna Scholz pants and curve hugging Marina Rinaldi Xantia Blouse.

Saturday, I cruised the strip in my FAVORITE Anna Scholz Tunic Dress, Melissa Masse Brown Leggings with pink Marina Rinaldi Angora Coat keeping me toasty.  For our evening excursion I swapped into my trusty black skirt and the Shimmer and Shake to by De Sentino – I looked gooooood!   I added my black leather Marina Rinaldi Jacket and headed out to dance the night away.

In addition to the clothes I brought, I threw in a Betsey Johnson nightie, and a sweatsuit for the spa and I still had a little bit of room left in my suitcase for a shopping spree!

I feel like I should quote the hair club for men president right now and say “I am also a client”!
