Picture perfect

February 22nd, 2010 by Catherine | No Comments | Filed in beauty

A good foundation is essential on the face as well as the body.  For my face, I rely on Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. There are a few different kinds, and depending on the season and the state of my skin I choose between the Photo Finish, the Color Blend and the Color Adjust.  Each of these primers has a different function and I find them very valuable.

I have tried so many different primers and I keep coming back to the Smashbox.  My favorite is the Color Adjust, because I have lots of red in my skin tone.  It definitely blends it in and gives me a pure clean foundation for the rest of my makeup.  You can find Smashbox on Sephora.com, QVC.com, Amazon.com and Beauty.com.  Pricing on the Photo Finish is offered in a 1 oz. size for $36 and the 2 oz. is offered for $49.

Let’s talk about Lips, baby!

February 15th, 2010 by Catherine | No Comments | Filed in beauty

In honor of the Olympics and the blustery weather here on the East Coast, I am thinking that we should discuss lips today! Some women are lipstick ladies and some are balmy beauties. I switch between both.

Foremost, I always have balm in my bag, Smith’s Minted Rose balm to be exact! It is in a beautiful vintage tin canister, fits into your bag and gives a super sexy pout. Find it at Sephora.com for $7.

Lipgloss can be tricky, so I stick to Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Pearl Plum. That is my go to lip color at Walgreens for $6.99. It sparkles and shimmers and turns my chapped lips into soft velvet.

Since I am a Francophile, and a coveter of all things Chanel, I wanted to share a secret with you. Chanel is putting out their new lipstick collection on February 25, 2010 inspired by Coco herself. You can find all the details at Chanel.com. In the meantime, you can browse their beautiful line of lipsticks for $30 each. I am a fan of the Rouge Allure in Provocative.

Bat those Beauties: Top Mascaras

February 8th, 2010 by Catherine | 1 Comment | Filed in beauty

Everyone has a body part that they love to highlight.  It always makes you feel better when you know you look good!  Personally, I am a fan of super-lush eyelashes.  Being that my eyelashes are super blonde without mascara, I never, ever leave home without it and a primer*.  I have tried almost every mascara out there that promises longer, thicker, fuller, curlier lashes. I have three favorites.  Maybelline Great Lash with the Curved Brush, Anastasia, and Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash.

The first one is Maybelline Great Lash in blackest black, $6.99.

They are the go to favorite from the drugstore. (My Drugstore of choice lately is Walgreens and they have it on sale this week for $2.99 online.)  Maybelline is the standard when I need something fast and reliable, I always go back to Great Lash.

Two others from Sephora or Sephora.com, are Anastasia, $22 and Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash, $19.  These mascaras make me look like I have false eyelashes on. I love the lush feeling that they give my eyes and sometimes, if I am lucky, they even make it look like I have eyeliner on with them.  The brushes are great and they rarely clump.

*Before I even put my mascara on, I coat my lashes with a primer. Generally it is white, but I have also tried clear mascara as a “base
coat.”  I love Smashbox’s Mascara Primer $16 (also available at Sephora).  It doesn’t leave the lashes too thick or clumpy.

Bat those beauties!
